You underestimate the power of the dark side of the Force!
Today’s post is going to be very short.
I’ve been working with my web host to fight some nasty SOBs who are trying to attack and exploit my web hosting account. (NOT Breakthrough Marketing Secrets, but another site hosted on the same shared server.)
No customer or email subscriber information has been compromised (that’s not even hosted on my sites).
But it may have caused you trouble in trying to load any of my websites — including Breakthrough Marketing Secrets — in the last couple weeks. The site has loaded slowly — sometimes, not at all.
It’s been a royal pain in the butt — for me and my readers.
And because I primarily run all my websites DIY — meaning, I don’t have a webmaster to deal with these issues for me — it’s caused me to be diverted from my more valuable work.
I’m getting everything taken care of though…
AND all of my sites will now have much higher levels of security protecting them, PLUS they’re all now being updated automatically to minimize the chance of a known security issue causing any further problems.
I’ve been doing web stuff since the mid 90s — including web programming. I CAN do much of this myself. And 99% of the time, it works okay — even if it’s not the best idea in terms of time management and “highest and best use” of my time.
But these 1% times where things aren’t working really underscore that this is a big dark side to DIY internet marketing…
Namely, by choosing to deal with the good and easy yourself, you also have to deal with the bad and hard. Or, at the very least, you’ll be scrambling looking for help when hard times hit, versus making one quick call to take care of it all.
This is a good lesson for internet entrepreneurs, for sure.
