It’s easy to feel like a fraud or impostor when starting something new…

And this could include getting into a new industry…

OR it could even be taking on something that’s just new to you because it’s different or a challenge that’s just enough bigger than what you’ve done before that you’re uncertain.

In fact, this is so common, it has a name: Impostor Syndrome.

We start to look at any and all evidence that we may not have what it takes.  And pretty soon we believe our own PR.

That is, instead of tackling it and figuring it out, we think of all the reasons we shouldn’t.

Today’s video is a response to a copywriter who is feeling this…

She wants to break into a new niche…

The much-desired financial niche…

But she’s concerned she doesn’t have what it takes.

Here’s her question…

Roy,

My challenge is learning an industry well enough to get clients in it (I’m looking at you, finance).

If I don’t have strong knowledge in any specific area of life (ouch), then how do I show I’m competent enough to write about it (yes, I highlight my on-point research skills)? How do I overcome feeling like everyone will think I’m not smart enough to do the job?

I don’t come from a business background so learning copywriting is a steep learning curve. I don’t feel like I know anything close to what I need to know to get on a call with a CEO.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Lindsey

First, I answer the question she didn’t ask…

When you read her question above, did it raise any red flags for you?  Or at least a yellow flag of caution?

It did for me.

So I address that issue first — and its potential solution.

Then I answer the question directly — how to deal with the impostor syndrome and feeling like a fraud…

— What I told clients as I was getting started to get over this hump…

— How specifically I prepared for getting started as an investment copywriter, before I approached clients…

— Why your feelings are normal, and how to use them to your advantage…

— A surprising revelation about one of the best financial copywriters I know…

— The concept from Buddhism that even pros should remember, but you have automatically working in your favor right now…

— Another ancient philosopher (this one from Greece) whose method can give you everything you need in terms of content — even before you really know the industry…

— Why the lessons in my Story Selling Master Class are 100% critical here — and actually more important than subject-matter expertise…

— And the #1 thing to remember about selling, that will make you a success in copywriting for financial or any other industry…

It doesn’t matter if you’re in copywriting or any other field — this is all relevant.

As long as you are building a bigger, better life for yourself, you’ll run into this over and over again.

And these strategies will help.

It’s all in today’s video.

Watch now.

Yours for bigger breakthroughs,

Roy Furr
